Walk-in Theater

2012 with Eric Gould Bear and Jim McKee. iPad app.

With the goal of realizing the display of (6×6) Emptiness Can Hold Things in the physical dimensions of an installation, Strickland and sound designer Jim McKee collaborated with interaction designer Eric Gould Bear to devise a virtual environment that lets people preview the spatially distributed video environment in a 3D simulation with localized audio. Departing from one-way linear movies played on a single screen, the Walkie realizes a new cinematic form that beholders experience by moving around it. Walk-in Theater for iPhone and iPad is available for free download from the App Store.
